NEWZINO SPECIAL - MIDTERMS 2026
The fight for Congress
All 435 House seats, 35 Senate seats and 36 governorships are on the ballot on Tuesday, November 3. Here is where each one stands, the races that decide it, and a map for each where you can call them yourself.
The Senate
35 of 100 seats are up. Today it is 47 D to 53 R; the 47 are 45 Democrats and 2 independents who caucus with them. Democrats need a net gain of 4 for 51. A 50-50 Senate stays Republican on the Vice President's tie-break.
The Senate map: play what if
Each state is shaded by its Cook Political Report rating. Gold states are toss ups. Click any state that is not solid to call it yourself. Each one you call gets a gold outline, and the count on the right shows who would control the Senate.
