Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians who fled Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan and entered India without papers by December 31, 2024 will not be prosecuted for how they arrived. Under an amendment notified on November 4, 2026, they must now obtain an "appropriate category of visa" to keep living in India.
