Grand Rapids Public Schools will publicly interview two superintendent finalists at 5 p.m. Wednesday at GRPS University on Fuller Avenue. The board chose Kelly Greene, a 20-year district administrator, and Allison Tingwall, a Chicago Public Schools executive, from 35 applicants.

GRPS voters approved a $305 million school bond in November 2024 with nearly 75% support. On September 14, the school board approved a $4.8 million purchase package from that bond. It covers security cameras, surveillance systems, scholar devices, and building upgrades.

Seller — offloading surplus school properties

The shuttered Stocking school cleared a major hurdle on September 10, when Grand Rapids' planning commission unanimously approved a 48-unit affordable housing development. The $19 million project depends on Commonwealth Development Corporation winning federal low-income housing tax credits; a decision is expected in late January or early February.

Organizer of the Turkey Trot

The Grand Rapids Public Schools (GRPS) Turkey Trot is adding a 10K and a 1-mile walk to its lineup this Thanksgiving. The 34th annual event will open with the new 10K at 8 a.m. on November 26, followed by the children's Mini Trot, the 5K, and the new family walk.
