For the next week, drivers on Northland Drive near Grand Rapids will detour around a 60-foot-wide trench as crews slide 19 precast concrete arches under the road to form a pedestrian tunnel. The closure cuts off a seven-lane stretch used by 30,000 vehicles a day, but it is the final push to link the Grand River Greenway trail system.
