Metro's board voted Thursday to rename the downtown Pershing Square station after Biddy Mason, a formerly enslaved woman who built a real estate fortune in 1800s Los Angeles. The unanimous vote makes "Biddy Mason Station" the second downtown landmark to take her name — the LA City Council voted 11-0 on September 4 to rename the square itself, a move that has not yet taken effect.
