Filed a state lawsuit against Kalshi on Oct. 20 and signed a public-nuisance declaration the same day

Utah sued Kalshi in state court on Oct. 20, naming five Kalshi entities and two Susquehanna market-maker firms and calling its event contracts illegal gambling. The state wants a court-approved geolocation service to block those bets in Utah, and it says Kalshi collected $30.6 million to $61.2 million in fees from about 32,940 Utah accounts.

The Utah Food Bank received its first shipment of eggs on Oct. 5, the start of a 1.5 million-egg share from a multistate price-fixing settlement. Attorney General Derek Brown took Utah's share in eggs rather than cash, sending it to families who rely on food assistance.

Defending the state's gambling ban against Kalshi's suit

Utah can keep enforcing its ban on sports-style prediction bets while Kalshi appeals. The 10th Circuit refused on September 8 to pause the state's prop betting law, and last week a Sixth Circuit panel rejected the same preemption argument in Ohio and Tennessee.
