Ken Griffin, founder of hedge fund Citadel, pledged $3 billion to Carnegie Mellon University on Wednesday. It is the largest individual gift in the history of higher education, surpassing the $2 billion Nike co-founder Phil Knight gave to Oregon Health & Science University in August 2025.
