A federal judge has temporarily blocked the University of California from punishing conservative group members who refer to transgender people by birth names and pronouns. Judge Fred W. Slaughter issued the injunction Sept. 15, ruling UC's anti-harassment policy likely compels speech in violation of the First Amendment.
