Ken Griffin, founder of hedge fund Citadel, pledged $3 billion to Carnegie Mellon University on September 30, the largest individual gift in higher education history. It surpasses the $2 billion Nike co-founder Phil Knight gave to Oregon Health & Science University in August 2025.
