Boston Mayor Michelle Wu backed challengers to two state senators who blocked her property tax plan in January. One challenger, Latoya Gayle, lost to Senator Nick Collins; the other, Daniel Lander, trails incumbent William Brownsberger by 34 votes ahead of a recount due Sept. 11.

Lost primary, endorsed Markey

Ed Markey, 80, won Massachusetts' Democratic Senate primary on September 1, defeating Rep. Seth Moulton, 47, who built his campaign on the argument that the party needed younger leaders. The Associated Press called the race about 30 minutes after polls closed, with Markey taking roughly 70% of the vote.
