Four years after a federal investigation found a 'lax safety culture' at the MBTA, the Federal Transit Administration has formally closed its oversight and returned safety monitoring to state regulators. The announcement came Sept. 18 from Gov. Maura Healey, following an FTA letter dated Sept. 11 that found the state's Department of Public Utilities now meets federal standards.
