Famous Toastery at Ayrsley Town Blvd drops off Charlotte's active license list

Money Moves Charlotte, NC local

License missing from city records since Oct. 15; the chain has already closed its Dilworth and Tega Cay restaurants

Overview

Updated 3 days ago

The Famous Toastery at 2127 Ayrsley Town Blvd has been absent from Mecklenburg County's active food license list since Oct. 15, and Google now marks the address permanently closed. Neither the county nor the chain has said what happened to the license.

The lapse lands as the brand shrinks in its home market. Famous Toastery closed its Dilworth restaurant at 2400 Park Road on May 24 after 15 years, and shut its Tega Cay, S.C., store in September 2025. Co-founder Robert Maynard told the Charlotte Business Journal the Dilworth decision followed a review of how other locations were doing, and that business was stronger outside the main Charlotte core.

Why it matters

If the Ayrsley closure holds, Charlotte loses another Famous Toastery as the chain pulls back from its home market.

Scenarios

1

License reappears, restaurant stays open

Unlikely Resolves by Nov 30, 2026

Discussed by: Possible if the missing listing is a clerical error or temporary lapse in paperwork.

If the city's food establishment license list shows the Ayrsley Town Blvd address again, it would indicate the closure notice was premature. This could happen if the establishment renewed its license late or if there was a data entry mistake.

2

Closure confirmed, location permanently shut

Likely Resolves by Jan 31, 2027

Discussed by: Based on Google's permanent closure mark and the sustained absence from the license list.

If the address remains off the active license list and Google continues to show 'Permanently closed,' the restaurant has almost certainly shut down. The license was issued in June 2019, so this would end a seven-year run at this location.
