Overview
Starting Nov. 1, Grand Rapids drivers on designated residential streets must park on the side of the road matching the date. On odd dates, that means the odd-address side; on even dates, the even-address side. Parking on the wrong side costs $20.
The rules run through April 1 and exist so snowplows and street sweepers can clear roads, catch basins don't clog and flood, and emergency vehicles can reach homes in heavy snow. Residents can ask the city to review their street if they want the restrictions changed.
Why it matters
Through April 1, drivers on Grand Rapids' designated streets must park by the date or pay a $20 fine.

Scenarios
Grand Rapids wraps season without changes

The 2026-27 season runs from Nov. 1 to April 1 as posted. Drivers follow the odd-even schedule, plows clear the streets, and the program resets for next winter unchanged.
City adjusts restrictions on specific streets
Discussed by: Residents using the city's review request process
A resident or neighborhood asks the city to add, change, or remove seasonal restrictions on a street. Staff apply the posted criteria and decide whether to update the list for the 2027-28 season.
City changes the fine or the date rules
Discussed by: Grand Rapids City Commission
If the city decides the $20 fine is too low or wants to alter the date-matching schedule, the commission would vote on a rule change. No such proposal is public.
