Texas shifts off-premises alcohol sales to 10 a.m. (September 2021)
Texas law had long barred alcohol sales for off-premises consumption before noon, while allowing on-premises sales as early as 10 a.m. when served with food. In September 2021 the state moved the off-premises start to 10 a.m. while keeping liquor-store closures on Sundays and major holidays.
Stores could begin wine and beer sales two hours earlier.
The change loosened one of the strictest parts of the state's liquor retail code.
It shows package store permits like Liquor Time's operate inside a tightly scripted set of hours and closure days set by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
