Investing $1B in a new Sanford, NC facility

In late September 2026, two companies announced $1 billion plant investments within days of each other. Caterpillar will build a new compact equipment factory in Sanford, North Carolina. Ultium Cells, the battery venture shared by General Motors and LG Energy Solution, will retool its plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee.
