Mapping the fire's spread and damage
A wildfire has burned more than 11,000 hectares across Serbia, with the largest blaze tearing through the Deliblato Sands, a protected nature reserve about 65 kilometers from Belgrade. Firefighters and army helicopters fought for days to keep flames from reaching homes in the village of Ε umarak, where the fire entered some yards but was stopped short of houses.
