Refurbishing Pickering Units 5-8; all four reactors offline as of Sept. 30, 2026, awaiting a CNSC licence decision

Ontario is running two nuclear refurbishments at once. Bruce Power returned Unit 3 to the grid in 2026, seven months ahead of its January 2027 target and $150 million under budget, and says it is halfway through a six-unit, $13 billion program. Ontario Power Generation finished Darlington's four units in February 2026.

Leads the Canadian BWRX-300 deployment at Darlington

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission on September 29 granted Tennessee Valley Authority a construction permit for a small modular reactor at its Clinch River site near Oak Ridge, Tennessee. It is the first SMR construction permit issued in the United States, clearing TVA to build a 300-megawatt BWRX-300 designed by GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy.
