Processing remaining SF ballots manually; reports 97.98% on-time ballot delivery nationally
Thousands of San Francisco mail-in ballot envelopes arrived torn in early October after mail-processing equipment damaged the outer packets. The city’s election office says the ballots inside are still valid if all four cards and the return envelope are intact. The Postal Service switched to handling the remaining packets by hand.

Conducting camera pilot program
A hundred U.S. Postal Service delivery trucks in the Washington, D.C. area now carry forward-facing cameras that record roads, signs, and sidewalks in 4K while the vehicles are in drive. USPS launched the pilot on September 21 with dashcam maker Next Base, saying it wants to identify roadway conditions and support "community safety."

Mail ballot rule blocked for the November 2026 election
Michigan voters began receiving absentee ballots for the November 3 general election Thursday, opening the state's 40-day window to vote from home. It is the second general election under Proposal 2, the 2022 measure that created early voting and a permanent mail-ballot list.

Alexandria City Council decided the first appeal under its new address-renumbering ordinance on Oct. 17, siding with the appellants. The council affirmed the appeal of the city manager's decision, and the action docket records that the addresses will remain as is: 3600 Russell Road keeps the number it has carried since 1939, and 3600½ is not changed to 3578.
