AMD agrees to acquire AI startup World Labs

Being acquired by AMD

AMD has agreed to buy World Labs, the AI lab founded by Stanford professor Fei-Fei Li, for $8.2 billion in stock. The deal puts one of AI's most prominent researchers inside a chipmaker racing to close Nvidia's lead in data-center AI. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026, pending regulatory approvals.

Point a phone camera at a room and this model rebuilds the room in 3D, including the parts the camera never saw. On September 1, World Labs, the startup co-founded by Stanford computer vision pioneer Fei-Fei Li, unveiled Atlas.
