Salt Lake City's utility impact fees had not changed since 1999. On October 6, the City Council voted 7-0 to raise water, sewer and stormwater fees on new development. Water fees nearly triple, and stormwater fees more than quintuple.

Children in Rose Park raced to the new play structure minutes after helping cut the ribbon around it. The "cat park" (officially Joseph F. Steenblik Park) reopened September 21 after a year-long renovation, its four bronze Dairy Cats untouched, as neighbors demanded.

Rule Changes

As of September 2026: Pushing to tighten the cap below 200,000 gallons

Salt Lake City's council voted Tuesday to make permanent a rule capping daily water use for new nonresidential buildings at 200,000 gallons. The limit, an emergency measure in place since March, was set to expire Sunday.
