Delta schedules daily Austin-Bentonville nonstop for March

Delta schedules daily Austin-Bentonville nonstop for March

Built World Austin, TX local

The route adds a network-carrier option on a city pair Allegiant dropped in 2023.

Overview

Updated 1 hour ago

Delta Air Lines has scheduled one daily nonstop between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and Northwest Arkansas National Airport starting March 8. About 33 people fly from XNA to Austin each day, and 27 of them connect through Dallas-Fort Worth on American Airlines, so the nonstop removes that stop for local travelers.

The route is Delta's latest addition at Austin, where it expects about 30 destinations by December 2026 and more than 70 peak-day departures by summer 2027. It also revives a city pair Allegiant flew twice a week from July 2021 until January 2023, when schedule records show the service ended.

Why it matters

Northwest Arkansas travelers gain a daily nonstop to Austin, testing whether a network carrier can succeed where Allegiant failed.

Scenarios

1

Delta launches daily XNA-Austin service on March 8

Likely Resolves by Mar 8, 2027

Discussed by: Delta's published schedule and FareFlight NWA route report

Delta has already loaded the once-daily flight into its schedule. If no regulatory or operational disruption intervenes, the first nonstop should operate on March 8, 2027, making Austin XNA's 29th nonstop destination.

2

Delta keeps the route daily through its first year

Possible Resolves by Mar 8, 2028

Discussed by: Airline route planners and XNA traffic data

The route's first-year survival depends on filling the daily flight with local Austin traffic and connections through Delta's Austin network. A year of continuous daily service would show the network-carrier model worked where Allegiant's twice-weekly leisure service did not.

3

Delta drops XNA-Austin within two years

Unlikely Resolves by Mar 8, 2029

Discussed by: Allegiant's 2023 exit and route-demand skeptics

The prior Allegiant route ended in January 2023. If Delta's daily flight cannot fill seats or connect enough passengers, the airline could exit the city pair before March 2029.

Historical Context

2 moments from history that rhyme with this story — and how they unfolded.

February 2021-January 2023

Allegiant's XNA-Austin service (2021-2023)

Allegiant announced twice-weekly nonstop flights between Northwest Arkansas National Airport and Austin in February 2021, with introductory one-way fares as low as $49. Service began July 2, 2021, and schedule records show it ended in January 2023.

Then

The route gave leisure travelers a direct option but did not build a connecting network at either end.

Now

It left the Austin city pair open until Delta scheduled a daily flight for March 2027.

Why this matters now

Delta's daily service will test whether a network carrier can make the route work where a twice-weekly leisure carrier could not.

2025-2027

Delta's Austin focus-city expansion (2025-2027)

Delta launched Austin-Cancun and Austin-Los Cabos service in 2025 and has added Denver, Miami, Kansas City, Palm Springs, Phoenix and Columbus from Austin in the past year. It plans daily seasonal Austin-Paris service in March 2027 and daily Austin-San Diego service in April 2027.

Then

The additions make Austin a larger Delta base with more connecting options.

Now

The XNA route fits that buildout by feeding travelers into Delta's Austin flights, including international ones.

Why this matters now

Delta is not adding a stand-alone leisure route; it is extending its Austin network into a market that currently relies on American's DFW hub.
