Livernois Avenue of Fashion (1940s-1960s)
From the 1940s through the early 1960s, Livernois Avenue between McNichols and 8 Mile was Detroit's premier shopping street. The strip, known as the Avenue of Fashion, drew customers from across the metro with high-end clothing, jewelry, and specialty stores.
The corridor stayed busy through the 1950s as Detroit's auto-driven prosperity peaked.
Suburbanization and the 1967 civil unrest drained the strip of customers and retailers. Storefronts sat empty for decades, and the area has drawn renewed commercial and city interest in the 2010s and 2020s.
19345 Livernois sits in that historic shopping corridor. A new food establishment license points to fresh commercial interest at a location whose retail heyday has long passed.
