CBGB closes, space becomes clothing store (2006)
CBGB, the legendary punk club at 315 Bowery in Manhattan, closed in October 2006 after a rent dispute with its landlord. The club had operated for 33 years and launched bands like the Ramones and Blondie.
The space sat empty before becoming a John Varvatos clothing boutique in 2008.
The closure marked the end of an era for New York's punk scene and showed how nightlife spaces get repurposed.
Like CBGB's Bowery address, 1417 Westheimer Rd is a nightlife space changing hands. The Fibonacci Room license is the latest step in that turnover.
