Special Noodle founder's namesake restaurant registers with the local health district

September 29th, 2026: Health district registration

Overview

Updated 2 hours ago

Yu By Sijie, the Chinese fine-dining restaurant from Special Noodle founder Xiu Jie An, is now on Southern Nevada Health District records. The September 29 registration is the third permit filed over the summer for the dining room at Tivoli Village, which held its soft opening on August 7.

The permits cover a kitchen built around Peking duck and hand-shaped dim sum, the first restaurant the chef has put her own name on after three decades in American restaurants. She designed and built the space herself, down to the lighting and table layout.

Why it matters

For Las Vegas diners, a 30-year kitchen veteran's namesake fine-dining room is now serving in Summerlin.

Historical Context

2 moments from history that rhyme with this story — and how they unfolded.

February 2008

Momofuku Ko opening (2008)

Chef David Chang opened a 12-seat tasting-menu restaurant in New York's East Village, years after launching the casual Momofuku Noodle Bar. The high-end room earned two Michelin stars in the 2009 guide.

Then

The reservation-only room became one of the city's hardest tables and boosted Chang's profile.

Now

It showed a chef could extend a casual brand upward into fine dining under the same name.

Why this matters now

Like Chang, An is betting that the reputation of her casual brand, Special Noodle, can carry a higher-end namesake room.

1994

Nobu Matsuhisa opens Nobu (1994)

After running the Beverly Hills restaurant Matsuhisa since 1987, chef Nobu Matsuhisa opened the fine-dining room Nobu in Los Angeles with partners Robert De Niro and Drew Nieporent.

Then

Nobu became one of the most recognizable fine-dining brands in the world.

Now

It proved a chef's name could anchor an international restaurant empire.

Why this matters now

Yu by Sijie is An's attempt to put her own name and reputation on a dining room after years of building another brand.
