Severe Tropical Cyclone Narelle crossed the Gulf of Carpentaria and made a second landfall near Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory on March 22 as a Category 3 system with wind gusts of 185 km/h. It had previously struck far north Queensland on March 20 as a high-end Category 4 system.
