Mexican grape growers now have the world's first commercially approved RNA-based fungicide. Oifirax, developed by U.S. biotech GreenLight Biosciences, uses double-stranded RNA to silence the CYP51 gene the powdery mildew fungus needs to make ergosterol, a component of fungal cell membranes.
