Leading coalition negotiations after winning 42 Saeima seats
Latvian voters went to the polls October 3 and handed Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs's centrist United List party its largest parliamentary victory since the country regained independence in 1991. With 97% of ballots counted, United List held 35.3% of the vote and 42 of the Saeima's 100 seats.

Latvia abstained on Sept. 22, clearing the sanctions deal
The EU formally removed Russian billionaires Alisher Usmanov and Mikhail Fridman from its sanctions list on Tuesday, ending an 8-day standoff. The bloc renewed restrictions on nearly 3,000 other Russia-linked individuals and entities for 36 months, through September 2029.
