Philadelphia tobacco permit revocations (2020)
In January 2020, Philadelphia's Department of Public Health said 149 stores could not renew their tobacco sales permits after being caught selling to minors three to seven times over two years. Many were in poor, minority neighborhoods in North, West, and Southwest Philadelphia.
The 149 stores lost their tobacco sales privileges.
The action made clear that Philadelphia business permits carry compliance conditions and can be revoked, not just issued.
The same city enforcement framework governs the new food-service license for Nayely Grocery Inc: the license is one approval among several, and compliance determines whether it stays valid.
