New Capabilities

Creative tools land in Gemini across all plans, while Acrobat joins the Claude plugin

Yesterday: Adobe tools go live in Gemini; Acrobat joins Claude plugin

Overview

Updated 1 hour ago

Adobe's pro creative tools now answer to Google's Gemini chatbot. As of September 24, Gemini users on any plan can call on Photoshop, Lightroom, Adobe Express, and Firefly to fix photos, build marketing assets, and customize designs from inside the conversation.

It's two moves in one day. Adobe also folded Acrobat PDF tools into its existing Claude plugin, pushing that integration past 80 pro-grade tools, and added hands-on editors for PDFs and Express designs. The Gemini launch extends a push that began in April, when Adobe brought its creative tools to Anthropic's Claude.

Why it matters

Editing that once required opening Adobe desktop apps now happens inside AI chat prompts, changing where creative work gets done.

Scenarios

1

Adobe brings video and design apps to Gemini

Likely Resolves by Mar 24, 2027

Discussed by: Adobe's own September 24 announcement, which said it will 'continue to enhance the experience with more tools for creativity and productivity.'

Adobe framed the Gemini launch as 'the first step' in a longer journey. The Claude plugin shows the likely path: it now spans more than 80 tools, so Gemini can be expected to grow from the four launch apps. Premiere, Illustrator, and InDesign are the most probable additions, mirroring the Claude rollout.

2

Google and Adobe deepen their creative partnership

Possible Resolves by Q2 2027

Discussed by: Coverage of Adobe joining Gemini at Google I/O in May 2026, alongside Canva and CapCut.

Adobe signing on to Gemini with Canva and CapCut points to Google building a creative hub inside its assistant. A deeper arrangement could make Firefly a primary image-generation model in Gemini or bundle Adobe tools into Gemini subscriptions. It depends on whether Google wants to embed third-party creative tools or build its own.

3

Gemini integration stays at launch scope through 2027

Unlikely Resolves by Sep 24, 2027

Discussed by: Coverage noting the connectors offer selected workflows while full desktop apps remain for detailed work, and DIY Photography's questions about Adobe's clean-data model partnering with Google.

The Gemini connector covers four apps and conversational access to selected workflows, not full replacements for Creative Cloud. If no expansion comes, the integration settles as a convenience layer for routine tasks, with professionals still doing heavy lifting in desktop apps. The ethics question of Adobe's licensed-content Firefly model sitting inside Google, whose training practices have drawn criticism, could also slow deeper ties.

Historical Context

2 moments from history that rhyme with this story — and how they unfolded.

2023

Microsoft 365 Copilot (2023)

Microsoft embedded its Copilot assistant across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, letting users draft documents and build spreadsheets by prompting in natural language rather than clicking through menus.

Then

Brought generative AI into the tools billions use daily, setting the template for assistant-driven work.

Now

Showed how pro software vendors fold AI agents into existing surfaces instead of building separate apps.

Why this matters now

Adobe's play is the same move for creative software: meeting users inside an existing AI assistant instead of demanding they open Creative Cloud.

2025

Adobe Firefly AI Assistant (2025)

Adobe rolled out its agentic Firefly AI Assistant to edit photos across Lightroom and Photoshop without shuttling between apps. One photographer let the assistant work step by step, connecting the right Adobe tools, checking in for feedback, and moving forward only after approval.

Then

Established the pattern of an AI agent driving multiple Adobe apps to finish an edit.

Now

Became the orchestration mechanism Adobe now ports into AI chatbot surfaces like Gemini and Claude.

Why this matters now

The Gemini integration uses the same agentic orchestration, but now inside Google's assistant, where the user never opens an Adobe app at all.
