Eleven years after an Egyptologist proposed that walls in Tutankhamun's tomb hide sealed chambers holding Queen Nefertiti's burial, new scans point to hidden space beyond the burial chamber. The geophysical survey, published September 17, suggests a rubble-packed corridor and possible rooms a few meters beyond the tomb's walls.

The survey combines ground-penetrating radar with microgravity analysis, a technique that reads tiny variations in Earth's gravitational pull. Three earlier radar scans gave contradictory results. The only way to settle it is to drill through the tomb walls, a decision Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities could make as early as November.
