Called the latest U.S. response 'insufficient' and said Iran is no longer responding to Washington. On Oct 20 Tehran repeated threats against undersea cables and promised new weapons, after Rezaei earlier declared the US-assisted oil shuttle an explicit target.

Two more tankers were struck by unidentified projectiles in the Gulf on Oct 20 and Oct 21, Britain's UK Maritime Trade Operations said. One was about 30 nautical miles southeast of Al Faw, Iraq; the other 11 nautical miles west of Bukha, Oman. Both crews were safe, the Bukha fire was put out, and UKMTO did not say who fired.

The Strait of Hormuz remains closed to most traffic, and a supertanker exploded after hitting a mine near the waterway on October 20.

Iran's Revolutionary Guard said its mines stopped two tankers in the Strait of Hormuz this week, calling the vessels violators for using routes Tehran rejects. The parliament bill that would make those rules law still waits for a floor vote. The national security committee cleared its final article on October 4.
